My fussy boy

Daniel is fussy. Again. I wish that this was an uncommon thing for him, but as I look back over the past 15 months of his life, I realize -- this guy is just not a very happy little guy.
Each time that he gets into one of these prolonged fusses (which always, conveniently, seems to coincide with visiting family we never get to see), I find some reason to excuse his punkiness. He has been sick, teething and tired for most of his life, according to me.
This time I'm fairly sure it's teething again. The child has all of his teeth except his two-year molars, and at one time, near his first birthday, had 8 (EIGHT!!) teeth all breaking through at the same time. He has teethed HARD since they started coming in at four months. Poor little guy.
And though I think this may be the source of the problem this time, I'm also concerned that there is something else going on. He is just not resilient, or adaptable and I'm worried.
So I've made an appointment with a doctor for a consultation in a few weeks. In the meantime, anyone have wisdom to share?

  1. I wish I did have wisdom to share! Just when you think you have one child figured out - they change! It could just be a stage!!! But, he sure is cute! Good Luck and great blog!

  2. Look at the differnce between Jake and Ben, you and Rissy, Dad and John. I'm guessing that as the second kid, he's just finding his niche, and unfortunately it's the clingy sad one. Love you.

  3. Rhys was fussy too - lots of teething and drooling. Boys process discomfort and pain differently than girls (think of your husband for a moment.) And Lil - what the CRAP??? I am not fussy or clingy or sad. GEESH. I found my niche as the freakishly over-competant, gifted one. Crimony. I gotta pay close attention to these blogs.

  4. And I dont mean Dennis is a whiner - BUT ALLLLLL the men I know are BIGGGG wussies when illness (or the need for pooping) makes an appearence. Testosterone makes them both tough (as in opening jar lids for us) and wussified...it is a strange somewhat pathetic paradox.

  5. I took a brief unbiased survey and results are in: Marissa is the fussy one, Kalin is the gifted one.

  7. Ugh! I didn't mean that the second one is always fussy, MARISSA, I meant that they're obviously different from the first. The third one is the one that gets all the charm, though.

  9. Hey MARISSA, why you gotta be a hater? So, all the men you know are big wussies huh? Well, let's just see who takes who in the great jar opening contest next time you come up. I got 50 pickle jars and a case of gorilla glue that says you ain't got the stuff!
